Growing your own food is like printing your own money. Growing one plant will give a thousand, ten thousand seeds. 1$ worth of green beans will give you like 75$ worth of produce. This is my gospel. I’m telling people: Grow your own food. __________________________________________________ Hoes in my hand Livin by the land While you fuckin with the man In a city full of people tryna make a hundred grand oh Inner city killin just to prove you in a gang yo Siding with the devil when you gotta make a stand oh Said you built a kingdom but you got it built on sand oh Trippin over money when I got what’s in demand so You should eat you money while I feed another man __________________________________________________ If you ain’t a gardna you ain’t gangsta! Get gangsta with your shovel! Okay? Let that be your weapon of choice. Gangsta! Gangsta Gardna! __________________________________________________ I’m the gangsta gardener I got the plants a feeding ya I got the plans defeating ya With yo inner city dinner getting full of filler Setting yo guts on fire But selling lots cus them liars And cus you buy them be richer They give you drugs and you seller And cus you kill them feel better You go to jail for the setup huh Well they gonna come face to face with me And the gardener will make them see That the world is burning and they cannot flee Holding them responsible for history oui And if you wanna see You just gotta stop livin blindly Inner city kids need the good food free And all you really need is some dirt and seed Yes stick yo shovel in and let your gangster be Yes stick it to the man and make your own money Yes picking up the seed to feed your family __________________________________________________ There is the great open marketplace in the lower town. Here they can buy produce Fresh from the rich farmlands of the Ottawa Valley. Butter, and eggs, and crisp cream vegetables Gathered before the sun was up.

I'm afraid of getting lost Losing faith Giving up Running from nightmares I can't stop For now, I'm safe For now, I'm strong All the pain, let it go Go, go, go All the pain, let it go Why is my face turning grey? Why'd the music fade away? Where did all the colours go Inside my heart, inside my soul? Maybe I should take a break A break from doing anything It's the least that I can do For myself, for my youth No one's to blame I'm in charge Who's taking aim? I'm not armed All this pain, let it go Go, go, go All this pain, let it go Go, go All this pain, let it go Go, go, go All the pain, let it go

about

How did the idea of putting together a compilation album come about?

Covid has pretty much put an end to live shows for the last few months. The music industry has been hit hard by the pandemic. The Ottawa Experimental Music Team wanted to help the experimental scene here in Ottawa but we weren't quite sure how to go about doing it. The idea we came up with was to put together a compilation that would be available on Bandcamp. We would make it a free download (due to label restrictions etc.) with the option to pay. Any money raised would be split amongst the bands equally. With this mission statement in hand, we set out to contact bands/artists.

The response was overwhelming and even more incredible was the fact that the bands wanted any money raised to go to a charity. This was paying it forward to the max.

The charities we have chosen to support are The Parkdale Food Centre (parkdalefoodcentre.ca), Tungasuvvingat Inuit (tiontario.ca/about-ti) and The Ottawa Street Medics (www.ottawamatters.com/helpers/ottawa-street-medics-providing-supplies-and-emotional-support-for-transient-population-2845603).

We want to give a special shoutout to all the bands who have contributed to this compilation. Thank-you for all that you do and for the music you create.

Special thanks to Leila (Expanda Fuzz & meltingplastic (meltingplastic.com) for putting together the Compilation Cover.

This first OEM compilation is made up of artists based in Ottawa.
